Did you know that you may receive college credit for taking
classes at AHS?No, Im not talking
about Dual Credit classes.Im talking
about classes being offered in the Career and Technology Department.
Argyle High School has Local Articulation Agreements with
NCTC and Grayson County College that will allow students of our courses to petition
for credit through these schools. Here are the requirements:
Enroll in a CATE class at AHS
Register on CATEMA(this is done in your class)
Work hard, make good grades and challenge
yourself in class
Get approved for credit by your AHS instructor
Upon completion of the class, petition either
school to award you credit for the class
Its that simple!Students may receive college credit(s) for these courses simply by
registering, receiving recommendation and asking for the credit!
How does this work?At the beginning of the school year, all students enrolled in a CATE
class register through their AHS class. An articulation meeting is held with our teachers and the instructors of
the articulated class to make sure that the content is aligned and meets set
standards.Once this has been
determined, a Local Articulation Agreement is granted.
At the end of the course, our teachers log on to the CATEMA
system and approve the students who have met the requirements. Our students may then complete a petition for
credit through NCTC or Grayson County.Once it has been verified that the student successfully completed the
articulated course, credit will be granted. The only requirement is that they be enrolled at NCTC or GCC, either
through summer coursework or dual credit at AHS. Most of our students will qualify through
NCTCs dual credit program.
This is a great way to receive college credit for courses
taken here at AHS.Students do not have
to pay tuition or purchase expensive texts for these classes. We had four early
graduates petition and receive a total of 16 credits for a savings of over
$1600 this spring. If every senior who
is eligible to receive credit petitions for it this year, we will generate a
potential savings of $12,138 for these students. Please encourage your student
to take advantage of this great savings!
